HP and Dell to deliver Java-enabled PCs

Sun Microsystems signed an agreement with Dell Computer and Hewlett-Packard in order to put on the market Java technology on all their PCs, a move that ignores Microsoft's opposition in using this technology.

Rival companies Microsoft and Sun confronted for years on Java-related issues, with Microsoft struggling to eliminate Sun's technology from the Windows XP operating system.

Java is a programming language and software support that enables a program to run on different systems without any modifications. It is more popular now in teo areas where Microsoft is far from leadership: servers and mobile telephony.

HP would start to include Java in all PC models to be launched starting in the third quarter of the year. Dell is expected to deliver Java on all desktops, laptops and workstations before the end of the year.
