Sun Microsystems signed an agreement with Dell Computer and Hewlett-Packard
in order to put on the market Java technology on all their PCs, a move that
ignores Microsoft's opposition in using this technology.
Rival companies Microsoft and Sun confronted for years on Java-related
issues, with Microsoft struggling to eliminate Sun's technology from the
Windows XP operating system.
Java is a programming language and software support that enables a program
to run on different systems without any modifications. It is more popular
now in teo areas where Microsoft is far from leadership: servers and mobile
HP would start to include Java in all PC models to be launched starting
in the third quarter of the year. Dell is expected to deliver Java on
all desktops, laptops and workstations before the end of the year.
