Visa International and Datacard Group recently launched on the market the
first product of their co-operation, targeting a new offering for the Visa-member
banks: new customization tools for smart cards.
The new solutions refer to the cards' internal control of the customization
process (inserting into the chips specific info for each card). The service
offering includes consultancy, project management, hardware and software
installation, personnel training and permanent support for the project.
The solutions target mainly banks outside US, specifically banks that
migrate towards VSDC (Visa Smart Debit Credit).
Datacard offers, for this specific project, two accessible customization
tools. The first one is designed for banks that already use Datacard equipment,
the second is a solution built for banks that use a low volume of cards.
Both standard-based solutions, designed for a GlobalPlatform investment
protection, would allow Visa member banks to improve their existing Datacard
hardware and software, in order to personalize the EMV smartcards.
Over 100 million Visa-chip cards have already been put on the market.
The chip-based technology, already implemented in many parts of the Central
Europe, is about to be launched in Romania as well.
