On the occasion of the meeting between the Romanian IT&C Minister, Dan
Nica, and his Bulgarian homologue, Plamen Petrov, at the end on May, the
discussions set the details referring to the second cross-border optical
fiber connection, designed to be build together with the Calafat-Vidin bridge.
The project will involve the national phone operators, BTC and Romtelecom,
and is scheduled to come to an end before 2006. The European Commission
will contribute with a non-refundable financing worth 70% of the entire
Minister Dan Nica also invited the Bulgarian authorities to join the
regional initiative on e-Government, built on the basis of the e-Governance
Memorandum, signed in Bucharest by 6 Eastern European Countries. The Bulgarian
Minister showed himself interested and decided to send a team of experts
at the first reunion of the executive committee, to take place in July
2002, in Bucharest.
